DataCell 1 – The only truly accurate battery monitor, for multiple battery banks
Datacell 1 Battery Monitor – provides Battery Voltage and State Of Charge Information for up to 4 independent battery banks. These may be 12 or 24V (or mixed) from 25-2000Ah.
DataCell 1 is essentially four Merlin Equipment SmartGauge battery monitors in a single compact unit. However, it has the addition of a RS232/422 Data-stream, optional CANbus interface and 8x inputs/outputs that can be activated when batteries reach certain voltages or state of charge values.
DataCell 1 offers flexible installation to suit your application:
Standalone – as a discrete battery monitoring unit. With up to 8x inputs/outputs available, each configurable for different battery parameters, the unit can be used to automatically turn loads on/off, activate generators and alarms etc. In this configuration, spare outputs can be wired to red/amber/green LEDs for an at-a-glance battery status display.
RS232/422 DataStream – Use the functionality as described above but with the addition of a data output (Data cabling and software supplied with each unit). The supplied Windows based software allows for unit set-up and data-logging. Additional free Dashboard software is also supplied so that you can run a completely customisable set of battery gauges on your PC or Windows tablet.
Canbus Output – Optional CANBus output (can be used at the same time as both of the above) to stream CAN data over your existing vehicle’s network. Allows you to display battery data on existing screens and dashboards. Configuration required – speak with an engineer for more information.
Remote Panel – While using the unit in any or all of the modes above, you can also connect a remote panel. This gives a physical panel that can be mounted in a remote location from DataCell to provide all data. Panels are available in two formats: intuitive LCD alphanumeric screen or, large format LED for easy reading from a distance. Remote panels are ‘plug and play’ with both DataCell 1 and DataCell 2.
DataCell 1 is available for use with 1, 2, 3 or 4 individual battery banks.
Just two wires are connected to each battery.
Data may be read using (supplied) computer link and software and/or optional remote panel.
Set up and configuration is completed using the supplied PC link and software.
The soft- ware also includes a data logging module for gathering battery data.
DataCell Remote Panels
Optional “Plug & Play” remote panels are available to allow viewing of Voltage, State of Charge % and alarms.
Available with alphanumeric LCD display or large format red LED dis- play.

Total Ah consumed error was 1.24%, State of Charge % error was 0.15%, Time Remaining Error from full to flat was 0.68% and Time Remaining from 3⁄4 charged to flat was 0.03%. EnerSys concluded that at all times the Merlin Technology was “more than capable of producing under normal conditions, SoC and SoH readings with an accuracy within 1 or 2%”.
