À propos de ce produit

Deck season starts now. Treat the teak straight after the rains to protect it for the whole high season, and again just before the wet season for year-round protection. Work out how many litres you need — the calculator puts the right number of 5 L packs in your cart.

Boracol 5Rh is the teak deck treatment that cleans without acid and without scrubbing. It is the clear, water-based surface biocide and wood preservative that Northern European yards and owners use on teak decks: one application kills the algae, mould, lichen and black-spot mould that a wet season leaves in the grain, and the boron it carries into the timber protects against wood-rotting fungi and woodworm. The teak dries back to a clean, even silver on its own — no abrasion, no lost timber, no staining.

“I have worked on yachts all my life, and Boracol is the only thing I put on a teak deck. No harsh acid eating into the grain, no scrubbing the deck thinner every season — you put it on, it kills the black mould where it lives, and the teak comes back clean and silver by itself. That is why we brought it to Thailand.”

Matt Sheldrake — founder, Drake Marine

A teak deck cleaner that works without acid

Most teak cleaners work on the surface: an acid or caustic wash lifts the grey and the stains, and a stiff brush takes the dirt away — along with a little of the soft grain each time. Boracol works differently. It is a biocide, so it kills the growth itself, including the black-spot mould whose roots sit inside the grain where a brush cannot reach. The dead growth weathers away over the following days and weeks, and the boron stays in the timber to keep it protected. Nothing is scrubbed off, so the deck keeps its thickness and its caulking.

What it does

  • Kills algae, mould, lichen and black-spot mould on teak decks and on all the other surfaces around the boat — canvas covers, cushions, GRP, timber trim, jetties and pontoons
  • Preserves timber against wood-rotting fungi and wood-boring insects (woodworm, Anobium punctatum)
  • Practically odourless, low-VOC, non-flammable and non-staining
  • Ready to use — no mixing, no neutraliser, no rinsing
  • Also used on timber, render and masonry around villas, resorts and boardwalks — see Boracol for property and resorts

What customers say

“Just wanted to let you know that Boracol is the real deal. Really no trace of black mould at all, even after about eight months. Really pleased — the first treatment I have found that works.”

Dennis Stanfill — Director, HB Design

The two-treatment year for Thailand

When Why Ce qu'il faut faire
October–November, straight after the rains Months of rain and shade have seeded the grain; the high season is when you want a clean deck Wash, let the timber dry to just damp, apply until the timber is saturated. Protected through the high season.
April–May, just before the rains A second treatment stops growth establishing during the wet season Same again: wash, damp, saturate. Year-round protection.

How to apply

  1. Rinse the deck to remove dirt and salt (a soft brush across the grain if needed — no pressure washer), and let it dry until just damp. Pick a dry day: rain within 24 hours can wash the treatment off before it has penetrated.
  2. Apply by brush, roller or coarse low-pressure spray until the surface is visibly wet but not running off. Keep run-off away from varnish, paint and the water.
  3. Where the growth is heavy or the timber drinks the first coat quickly, let it dry to damp and apply a second coat until the timber will take no more.
  4. Leave it. The growth dies off over the following days and weathers away; there is not always a visible result on day one. Let it dry fully before any oiling or sealing.

The full method, with the reasons behind each step, is in our guide How to clean a teak deck without acid.

How much do I need?

One litre treats 2–4 m² per application depending on how porous the timber is; plan on 3 m² per litre, so one 5 L pack treats about 15 m² once. A 40 ft yacht's teak deck is typically 20–25 m² — about two packs per treatment, four for the year's two treatments. The coverage calculator takes your deck sections and the season plan and returns the packs.

Boracol 5Rh is a biocide: wear gloves and eye protection, keep it off skin, keep children and pets away until the surface is dry, and do not let run-off enter the water. It is a regulated hazardous substance in Thailand; we supply it in the original 5 L pack with the Thai label and data sheet.

Foire aux questions

How do I clean a teak deck without acid?

Rinse off the dirt and salt, let the teak dry to damp, then apply Boracol until the timber is saturated and leave it. It kills the mould and algae in the grain, and the dead growth weathers away without scrubbing. No acid, no two-part wash, no neutraliser.

Will it get rid of black mould on my teak deck?

Yes — black-spot mould is exactly what Boracol is made for. Because it kills the mould rather than bleaching the surface, the black spots fade over the following days and weeks as the dead growth sheds, and the boron left in the timber helps keep it from returning.

Will it bleach or discolour the teak?

No. It is clear and non-staining; the teak weathers to its natural silver as the dead growth sheds. It does not restore the golden colour of new teak — for that, oil or seal after the treatment has dried.

Can I use it on an oiled or sealed deck?

It needs to reach the timber, so strip or let the finish wear before treating; on a sealed deck it will only treat what it can reach.

Is one coat enough?

One saturating application per treatment is the standard; on heavily affected or very thirsty timber, a second coat once the first has dried to damp makes sure it reaches the full depth.

How often should I treat the deck in Thailand?

Twice a year: straight after the rains (October–November) and just before they return (April–May).

How is it delivered?

From stock in Thailand by courier, usually 1–3 days; free local delivery in Trang, Krabi and Phuket on our weekly run. International orders ship at cost, invoiced separately.

Can I return it?

Unopened packs within 30 days under our Returns & Refunds Policy; opened packs cannot be returned.
