SeaXchange is Spot Zero's watermaker line, and the XTC II is its automatic model: a seawater reverse-osmosis system that turns open-ocean, harbour or brackish water into fresh water at 600 to 2,200 US gallons a day, run from a 7-inch touchscreen. It is the half of the system that makes the water; pair it with a ZTC II purifier (or choose the XZ II combination) and the same water becomes spot-free and bottled-quality.

Remote-mounted membranes need Spot Zero's remote-mount hose kit (P/N 252404290). Spot Zero positions the XTC II as its "Overnighter" package — seawater in, general-use tap water out — with Bluelink connectivity, built-in dual redundancy (electronic and manual control) and push-to-start, self-maintaining operation.

Spot Zero notes that production capacity can be affected at 50 Hz: the pump motor turns slightly slower on a 50 Hz supply, so a system installed for Thailand is sized with that in mind. Tell us the daily water need and we will specify the capacity that delivers it on 50 Hz.

Installation, plumbing and wiring

From Spot Zero's one-line flow drawing: seawater intake through a clamshell inlet (recommended), seacock and sea strainer to the boost pump, which must be installed below the waterline and fed with 3/4 in ID wire-reinforced hose; the boost pump feeds the pre-filter (Spot Zero P/N 252404298) and then the control unit through 3/4 in ID tubing. Membrane supply and return are 1/2 in OD, membrane product 3/8 in OD, the overboard concentrate 1/2 in OD run free and unrestricted, and product to tank 3/8 in OD. The fresh-water flush cartridge (Spot Zero P/N 252404295) is fed from the ship's pressurised fresh-water supply through a check valve in 3/8 in OD or larger tubing. Power is a single-phase inlet (L1, L2, ground) to the control unit, which feeds the booster pump and the high-pressure pump; the touch panel and the optional remote touch panel run on 24 V DC; an NMEA 2000 bus connection and a tank-level switch input are provided.

Membrane care, storage and recommissioning (from Spot Zero's guide)

Fresh-water membranes sit in vessels closed with retaining plates (two M6 × 1.0 × 10 bolts, 5 mm Allen key) and are changed from the inlet end; the brine seal goes in last and is lubricated with a food-grade compound (Spot Zero recommends Molykote 111). Seawater membranes on the XTC II / XZ II side use 3/8 in quick-connect fittings on the end caps and three end-cap O-rings, which are replaced at every membrane change. New membranes ship in preservative and are flushed for at least 30 minutes with the product and concentrate discarded before the water is used.

If the boat is laid up, Spot Zero asks for the system to be run and flushed for five minutes once a month; if that is not possible, the membranes are preserved with Spot Zero's membrane storage chemical (one bottle per 5 US gallons / 18.9 L of purifier water, circulated with a chemical pump at no more than 30 psi and below 44 °C, renewed every three months). Recommissioning is a new pre-filter and a 30-minute flush to waste. The full procedure, with the freezing-climate version using propylene glycol, is in the membrane guide linked below.

Spot Zero's US list price starts at US$20,400 for the XTC II. We quote per boat on capacity and configuration; freight to Thailand at cost, invoiced separately.

Garantie

Spot Zero's standard limited warranty on built-in systems is 12 months or 1,000 hours, parts and labour (membranes, filters, seals and other consumables excluded). Spot Zero's extended warranties — Gold (+1 year/1,000 h, parts), Platinum (+2 years/2,000 h, parts) and Diamond (+2 years/2,000 h, parts and labour) — can be added at any time during the standard term; ask us for the current prices. Warranty cover applies in whichever country the fault occurs.

Freight is at cost and invoiced separately, so the price you see is the equipment.
